It was an enchanted garden at VanDuesen Botanical Gardens in Vancouver yesterday. Spring blossoms, Rhododendrons, woodland groves, lacy silhouettes, delicate flowers, last year’s lily pads reflected in still ponds and giant leaves – plantain, I think.

A week of very hot weather followed by moody skies, perfect for walks and atmospheric photographs. I wasn’t really sure I’d like living in Vancouver but who could resist these scenes? A few of my favourites:
and furthermore, for making my life easier, I nominate:
- This reversible top from MEC made my week: Less clothing to pack for trips while offering variety.
- My web theme’s blog because I don’t have the time or inclination to do research. (I use Elegant Themes).
- This app for being a quick and effective way to show someone their skeletal alignment. Because sometimes a simple photograph can say it so clearly.
I went to visit my friend on Vancouver Island last week and the Himalayan Blue poppies were in bloom at Butchart Gardens. This is practically the only time I am happy the sun is shining when I go there to take photographs, because the sun shines through the petals in a magical way. One would think I had enough photographs of blue poppies but I can never seem to get enough of them. You can see from these photographs that they are not all the same shade of blue, and there is a surprise at the end.
I asked on Facebook so it must be true: you still use a paper planner/datebook. I’ve been making these for a few years for family and friends – sort of like my version of the letter Christmas card. As photography is one of my hobbies I was just itching to do something more with them. One thing lead to another and here I am offering you this lovely (if I do say so myself) planner published by Blurb and, by the way, the quality is super.
This year’s planner is called Flowers of Butchart Gardens and features (you guessed it) photos taken at Butchart Gardens here on Vancouver Island. The front cover photo is one of the season’s Himalayan Blue poppies that Butchart Gardens are famous for, at least in this part of the world. You can see the full book preview here and all the 30+ flower beauties. If you visit my page at Blurb, be sure to say hello! Not that it is a contest or anything, but it *is* nice to know.
I feel it is rather crude to come right out and say buy-my-book (please) so I’ll just say the cost and shipping details are on the preview pane and leave it at that.
